The questioner : And this says: If a person, for example, joins in the third rak'ah and the imam made a mistake in the first rak'ah, and the place of prostration is after the taslim, does he prostrate after making up what he missed, or is it dropped from him? And is there a difference between one who caught up with the imam's mistake and one who did not?
The Shaykh : We say: If the imam has a prostration for forgetfulness after the taslim, and a man joins after the prayer has ended, then when the imam concludes the prayer with the taslim, this late-joining ma'mum stands up and makes up what he missed. Then, when he finishes his prayer, if he had caught up with the imam's mistake, it is obligatory for him to prostrate after the taslim. And if he did not catch up with it, because the imam made the mistake before he joined him, then he owes nothing.
