Fatwa number ( 20209 )
Q1: I was praying the midday prayer in congregation, and I joined them in the third unit. When the imam finished the prayer, he said the closing salam, so I stood up to complete what I had missed. While I was standing straight, I saw the imam prostrating for forgetfulness , and I was standing to make up what I had missed. In this situation, what should I do?
A1: If you stand up to make up what you missed of the prayer and you are standing straight, and then the imam prostrates for forgetfulness, you should continue making up what you missed, and you should not sit down to prostrate for forgetfulness with the imam. This is because once you have started the unit, it is not permissible for you to go back in this situation. You must prostrate for forgetfulness after making up what you missed, and it is better for your prostration to be before the closing salam.
