What is the ruling on eating frogs, snakes, and crabs?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : He (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Its water is pure and what dies in it is lawful food. هو الطهور ماؤه الحل ميتته
Sunan Abi Dawud 83Sahih (Al-Albani)
Is it permissible to eat frogs, snakes, and crabs?
Is that so, Ahmad? The letter "mim" is not used for anything but those of intellect. Therefore, if you said "ate them" (feminine) or "ate it," as for "ate them" (masculine), I consider them humans because that form is for those of intellect.
In any case, the general statement of Allah the Exalted:
Lawful to you is game from the sea and its food as provision for you and the travelers أحل لكم صيد البحر وطعامه متاعاً لكم وللسيارة يوجب الحل
[Al-Ma'idah 5:96]
But the frog is not a sea creature; the frog is an aquatic freshwater creature, so it does not fall under the verse. As for the snake, the one that does not live except in water, it is lawful, and so is the lobster.

The questioner : Freshwater or saltwater?

The Shaykh : Which one?

The questioner : The frog.

The Shaykh : The frog is freshwater.

The questioner : The crab is freshwater and saltwater.

The Shaykh : Huh?

The questioner : The crab is freshwater and saltwater.

The Shaykh : Freshwater and saltwater?

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : And it lives on land? Then it is not from the food of the sea.
