How do we reconcile the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) (There is no contagion and no bad omen...) with his saying (Flee from the leper as you would flee from a lion)?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Noble Shaykh, how do we reconcile the saying of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him):
There is no ‘Adwa, no omen, no Hamah and no Safar. لا عدوى ولا طيرة ولا هامة ولا صفر
Sunan Ibn Majah 3539
with his saying:
Flee from the leper as you would flee from a lion. فر من المجذوم فرارك من الأسد
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 16:270
?

The Shaykh : Yes, indeed. First: May Allah bless you, you must grasp an important principle, which is "that it is impossible for the Qur'an to ever be contradictory". If you come across two verses that you think are contradictory, know that this is either due to a deficiency in your understanding or a deficiency in your knowledge. So pause and do not rule that there is a contradiction until you ask the scholars. This is regarding what?

The questioner : Regarding contradiction.

The Shaykh : Likewise, it is impossible for two hadiths from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the authentic Sunnah to ever be contradictory. If you come across something you think is contradictory, that is only due to a deficiency in your understanding and a deficiency in your knowledge. You must be patient until you ask someone more knowledgeable than you.
Between the Qur'an and the authentic Sunnah, it is also impossible for there to be a contradiction between the Qur'an and the authentic Sunnah, because all of it is truth, and truth does not contradict. Know these three principles completely. So we say: The saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Flee from the leper as you would flee from a lion. فر من المجذوم فرارك من الأسد
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 16:270
indicates on its surface that the leper may transmit the disease, and indeed leprosy is a contagious disease. There are many diseases known to be contagious. So one does not sit with a person who has a contagious disease; leave him. For this reason, the scholars said: It is obligatory for the one in authority to isolate those who have been afflicted with leprosy. He should isolate them in a specific place so that people do not come into contact with them, and they do not come into contact with people, out of fear of what? Of contagion. But the saying of the Messenger of Allah:
There is no transitive disease, no ill omen لا عدوى ولا طيرة
Sahih Muslim 2222a
is a negation of what they believed in the pre-Islamic age of ignorance, that contagion must be present and that it is effective in all cases. The evidence for this is that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
There is no transitive disease, no ill omen لا عدوى ولا طيرة
Sahih Muslim 2222a
, a Bedouin raised an objection to him, saying:
O Messenger of Allah, the camels are in the desert, meaning like gazelles, يا رسول الله الإبل تكون في الرمل يعني كالظباء
. There is nothing in it, but if a camel with scab mixes with them, they get scab. And what is this? This is contagion. This is contagion. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him:
Who infected the first one? من أعدى الأول ؟
. This means: Who put the scab in the first place without it mixing with the scabby one? Who is it? Allah. So the one who transferred the contagion from this sick person to the second sick person to the healthy one is Allah (Mighty and Majestic), not the contagion itself. So the negation is of the effect of the contagion by itself, and the affirmation is to affirm that the contagion is from Allah (Mighty and Majestic). For this reason, it came in the hadith:
A sick person should not be taken to one who is healthy لا يورد ممرض على مصح
Sahih Muslim 2221a
. This is more general, meaning that whoever has sick camels or sick sheep should not lead them to the healthy ones, because that is one of the causes of the disease transferring to the healthy ones. Do you understand now? The negation means that contagion does not affect by itself, as the people of the pre-Islamic age of ignorance believed. The command to flee from the leper, and likewise from any patient whose disease is contagious, is from the perspective of avoiding harmful causes. Yes.
