Reconciling: “No contagion and no bad omen” and “Flee from the leper”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: How do we reconcile the two noble hadiths: (No contagion and no bad omen) and (Flee from the leper as you would flee from a lion)?

A: There is no contradiction, in the view of the scholars, between these two, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said both of them. He said:
There is no ‘Adwa, no omen, no Hamah and no Safar.لا عدوى ولا طيرة ولا هامة ولا صفر ولا نوء ولا غول
Sunan Ibn Majah 3539
This is a denial of what the people of the pre-Islamic age of ignorance believed, namely that diseases such as scab are transmitted by their nature, and that whoever mixes with a sick person will be afflicted with what afflicted the sick person. This is false; rather, it is by the decree and will of Allah. A healthy person may mix with a leper and not be afflicted with anything, as is the case and is known. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the one who asked him about healthy camels that mix with a scabby camel, causing all of them to become scabby:
So who infected the first one?فمن أعدى الأول
.
As for his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
Flee from the leper as you would flee from a lion.فر من المجذوم فرارك من الأسد
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 16:270
and his saying (peace and blessings be upon him) in another hadith:
A sick person should not be taken to one who is healthyلا يورد ممرض على مصح
Sahih Muslim 2221a
, the answer to that is: It is not permissible to believe in contagion, but it is prescribed for him to take the protective measures that prevent the occurrence of harm. This is done by staying away from one who has been afflicted with a disease that is feared to be transmitted from him to the healthy person by the permission of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He), such as scab and leprosy. This includes not bringing healthy camels into contact with camels sick with scab or the like; in order to avoid the causes of harm and to be wary of the whispers of Satan, who may suggest to him that what afflicted him or his camels was due to contagion.
