Some people give their wives a gift worth up to ten thousand riyals when they give birth, called al-Tal'ah. What is the ruling on this?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Shaykh, may Allah bless you, regarding some customs prevalent among people that result in economic burdens. For example, after a woman gives birth, her husband may give her a gift that can exceed ten thousand riyals, known as al-Tal'ah. What is your opinion, O Shaykh, on this, considering that a person may face severe criticism for deviating from such customs?

The Shaykh : This person is asking, saying: There are customs that some people follow which have no Shari'ah basis. One of them is that when a woman gives birth and then exits her post-natal bleeding, he gives her a gift called al-Tal'ah, which may reach ten thousand.
Our answer to this is: It is not befitting for people to adopt these practices that have no Shari'ah basis. As the questioner mentioned, they are exorbitant expenses. Perhaps what the questioner mentioned occurs in some countries, because we do not know of this practice in our country. However, if some countries do this, we advise them not to burden themselves with these expenses that have no Shari'ah basis.
