Are the people of major sins from the Ummah of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) to be eternally in the Fire, and is intercession permissible for them, and how does that happen?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Are the people of major sins from the Ummah of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) to be eternally in the Fire or not? And is intercession permissible for them or not? And how does that happen? I hope you will inform us, may you be rewarded.

The Shaykh : The people of major sins that are less than disbelief will not be eternally in the Fire, by the saying of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He):
Indeed, Allah does not forgive association with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills
[An-Nisa 4:48]
They are among the people for whom intercession is granted, in which the prophets, the truthful ones, the martyrs, and the righteous will intercede. This does not mean that a person should be lax regarding major sins, for major sins may cause the heart to become darkened until it leads to disbelief, may Allah protect us from that, as Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) said in Surat al-Mutaffifin:
(10) Woe, that Day, to the deniers, (11) Who deny the Day of Recompense. (12) And none deny it except every sinful transgressor. (13) When Our verses are recited to him, he says, "Legends of the former peoples." (14) No! Rather, the stain has covered their hearts of that which they were earning.
[Al-Mutaffifin 83:10-14]
.
This indicates that a rust may settle over hearts, so that they see the truth as falsehood and see the falsehood as truth. Therefore, a person should seek forgiveness for his major sins before he is unable to do so, and he should repent to Allah (Mighty and Majestic).

The questioner : May Allah bless you.
