The reciter: Muhammad ibn Mahrān al-Rāzī narrated to us, al-Walīd ibn Muslim narrated to us, al-Awzāʿī narrated to us from Abū al-Najāshī, who said: I heard Rāfiʿ ibn Khudayj say: Sahih Muslim 625a.
The Shaykh : Allah is the Greatest! It appears that in their time, slaughtering camels was easy and did not require a long time, because they used to slaughter them while standing with their left hand tied, and the slaughterer would approach from the right side and strike them with a spear in the hollow between the base of the neck and the chest, then they would fall and die quickly because the blood is close to the heart and drains rapidly, and they die quickly. For this reason, they are the fastest of livestock to die, faster than cattle and faster than sheep. The evidence that they had haste in slaughtering camels is that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) slaughtered 63 camels with his own hand on the day of the festival and gave the rest to ʿAlī, who slaughtered the remainder of the hundred. He ordered that a piece be taken from each camel and placed in a pot and cooked, and he ate from its meat and drank from its broth, all of this before the sun declined. Yes, that is correct.
We used to say the afternoon prayer with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), and then the camel was slaughtered and ten parts of it were distributed; then it was cooked and then we ate this cooked meat before the sinking of the sun.
