The Book of Mosques and Places of Prayer-10b

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: And Muhammad ibn Rafi' narrated to us, saying: 'Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us, saying: Ibn Jurayj informed us, saying: I said to 'Ata, "At what time do you prefer that we pray the 'Isha' prayer, which people call al-'Atamah, as an imam and alone?" He said, "I heard Ibn 'Abbas say:
The Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) delayed the 'Isha' prayer one night. He said, "People slept and woke up, and slept and woke up, until 'Umar ibn al-Khattab stood up and said, 'The prayer!' Then 'Ata said, Ibn 'Abbas said, "The Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came out, and it is as if I am looking at him now, his head dripping with water, placing his hand on the side of his head. He said, 'Were it not that it would be difficult for my Ummah, I would have ordered them to pray it in this manner.' Then 'Ata verified how the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) placed his hand on his head, as Ibn 'Abbas had informed him. So 'Ata spread his fingers for me somewhat, then placed the tips of his fingers on the crown of the head, then poured [water] and moved it over the head in that manner until his thumb touched the edge of the ear on the side facing the face, then on the temple and the side of the beard. He did not shorten or grasp anything except in that manner. I said to 'Ata, "How late did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) delay it on that night?" He said, "I do not know." 'Ata said, "I prefer that we pray it as an imam and alone, delayed, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed it on that night. If that is difficult for you alone, or for the people in congregation and you are their imam, then pray it in the middle, neither early nor delayed."
