Continuation of the benefits of the hadith: (Ibn 'Abbas delivered a sermon to us one day after the 'Asr prayer until the sun set . . .) and all of its narrations.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : He stood to deliver a sermon to the people from before the sun set until the stars appeared, and he will continue until the time for 'Isha' prayer enters. Do you permit him to do this? We say yes, if the situation necessitates it, we permit him to do this. There is no doubt that Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) saw that he had to exert this effort, because a man who preaches from the 'Asr prayer until the time for 'Isha' prayer enters, there is no doubt that he would not bear this except for what? Except for a dire necessity. So if the dire necessity necessitates it, there is nothing wrong with it. If someone asks: Do you permit a student, if his study sessions are consecutive and he cannot pray Maghrib, or he is unable to pray Zuhr, to combine them?
The student: Yes.

The Shaykh : As for the students, they will say yes, yes? Do you say no? Okay, we say there is a detail in this. If he fears that it will be considered negligence on his part and recorded against him, or if he fears that he will miss the lesson and it will not be possible to make up for it afterwards, then it is permissible for him to do so, especially if he is in a country other than his own, because we see that those who seek knowledge in other countries are considered travelers, because they have not taken it as a homeland or a place of residence. When their work is finished, they return to their families. If they were given their certificate before the sun set, they would return to their families. In any case, we say if a person suffers hardship or harm in not, yes, in leaving these lessons, then he may combine the prayers, because the principle that Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) established
he (the Holy Prophet) wanted that his Ummah should not be put to (unnecessary) hardship. أرد أن لا يحرج أمته
Sahih Muslim 706b
