Is the talk of the self considered speech?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : Yes?

The questioner : ... the talk of the self ... .

The Shaykh : No, the talk of the self is not speech. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Allah, the Most High, has forgiven my followers what they contemplate on within themselves (i.e. evil thoughts) as long as they do not act upon or speak about them. إن الله تجاوز عن أمتي ما حدثت في أنفسها ما لم تعمل أو تتكلم
Bulugh al-Maram 8:133
And if the talk of the self were speech, how many of us would have valid prayers?
The student : None.

The Shaykh : One in a thousand. How many of us talk to ourselves in our prayers, is that not so?
