The reciter: Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, saying: Husayn ibn Ali narrated to us from Zayd, saying: Amr ibn Yahya al-Ansari narrated to me, saying: Muhammad ibn Yahya ibn Huban narrated to me from Amr ibn Sulaym ibn Khaladah al-Ansari from Abu Qatadah, the companion of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), who said:
I entered the mosque and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was sitting among the people. He said: So I sat down, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: What prevented you from performing two rak'ahs before you sat down? دخلت المسجد ورسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلّم جالس بين ظهراني الناس قال: فجلست فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلّم: ما منعك أن تركع ركعتين قبل أن تجلس
He said:
I said: O Messenger of Allah, I saw you sitting and the people sitting. He said: When one of you enters the mosque, he should not sit until he performs two rak'ahs. فقلت يا رسول الله رأيتك جالسا والناس جلوس قال: فإذا دخل أحدكم المسجد فلا يجلس حتى يركع ركعتين
