The benefits of the hadith of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) giving water to drink.

The Shaykh : In this, there are benefits: First, among them is the permissibility of asking for water, meaning the permissibility of asking for rain. This is not considered a blameworthy matter, because it has become customary as a trivial matter. The indication of this is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) asked for rain, meaning he requested water. Among the benefits is the great respect shown by al-Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), who was the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) uncle, for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), because al-Abbas followed him; his imam was his nephew. Among the benefits is that a person should not be too proud to use what people have drunk from, because the action of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) is a recommended practice, in the sense that it indicates that a person should not be too proud and say, “I will not drink from the cup from which people have drunk, or from the cup in which people have put their hands,” or the like. This is undoubtedly much more beneficial and sounder, because doctors have said that if a person guards against everything in his food and drink, he will not have immunity against germs and the like. But if he does not worry about it, he will have immunity. For this reason, I have heard that in countries advanced in their worldly affairs, they began to use the towels that everyone uses to wipe themselves, instead of these individual towels, saying that this is better because of the resistance it builds. This is not far-fetched, because an internal disease is like an external one. If a person accustoms his feet to walking on gravel and pebbles, they become stronger than if he accustoms them to soft slippers and the like. For this reason, you find that one who is accustomed to soft slippers has thin skin and cannot walk on the ground, even if it is paved. Among the benefits of this hadith is the permissibility of storing Zamzam water, because al-Abbas asked al-Fadl to bring water from his place. This indicates that they had water that they stored in their houses. Among the benefits is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) looked to the future and was not one who looked only to the present. The evidence for this is that he wished to participate in giving water to drink, but he feared that the people would overpower the Banu al-Abbas in their role of providing water. Why? Because they follow his example and want to do what he does, and in that case, they would prevent the Banu al-Muttalib from their role of providing water. Likewise, a student of knowledge should have a far-sighted view and not weigh matters by the present. This means that he should not issue a ruling on something that will lead to harmful consequences, even if they do not appear in the present time, but will appear in the future. Yes.
