Benefits of the Hadith on Combining the Two Prayers at 'Arafah
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And in this hadith is evidence that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) did not pray the Friday prayer, even though the day was Friday, because a traveler does not pray the Friday prayer. If a traveler were to pray the Friday prayer, we would order him to repeat it. He would repeat it as what? As the midday prayer. This is if he is on a moving vehicle or staying in the open desert. However, if he stops in a town, it is obligatory for him to attend the Friday prayer and pray with the Muslims. As for when he is outside the town, it is not permissible for him to pray the Friday prayer, and if he does pray it, his prayer is invalid and he must repeat it as the midday prayer. Evidence for this is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) did not pray the Friday prayer, but rather he delivered the sermon to the people after he had prayed the midday and afternoon prayers. The Friday sermon is delivered before the prayer. Also, evidence for this is that the afternoon prayer is not combined with the Friday prayer, so it is established that the prayer of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) at 'Arafah was the midday prayer.
