Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : O Shaykh, may Allah reward you. A traveler came to a group of people who were praying Jumu'ah, and they appointed him to lead the Jumu'ah prayer. Is that permissible for them?

The Shaykh : According to the school of thought, no, because the imamah of one who is not a resident is not valid, nor is the sermon of one who is not a resident. For this reason, some people nowadays, meaning, some preachers come to the mosque, and the imam appoints them to deliver the sermon and lead the Jumu'ah prayer. According to the school of thought, their prayer is not valid because it is a condition for the imam and the preacher to be a resident. However, the stronger opinion is the opposite, and that if a traveler steps forward and leads the residents in the Jumu'ah prayer and delivers the sermon for them, there is no harm. Yes.
