Explanation of the Book of Hajj-10a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Yahya ibn Bukayr narrated to us, al-Layth narrated to us from Yunus from Ibn Shihab, who said: Salim said:
And 'Abd Allah ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to send the weak members of his family ahead, and they would stand at al-Mash'ar al-Haram in Muzdalifah at night, remembering Allah as long as they wished, then they would return before the imam stood and before he departed. Some of them would go to Mina for the Fajr prayer, and some would go after that. When they arrived, they would stone the pillar. And 'Abd Allah ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to say: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) granted a concession to those people.
Sahih al-Bukhari 1676
.

The Shaykh : There is no doubt that the best is to remain in Muzdalifah until one prays Fajr, and to supplicate and remember Allah at al-Mash'ar al-Haram. One may supplicate to Allah in any place in Muzdalifah, based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family):
And I have stayed here (at Muzdalifa near Mash'ar al-Haram and the whole of Muzdalifa) is a place for stay وقفت ها هنا وجمع كلها موقف
Sahih Muslim 1218c
However, if there are weak people, whether due to old age, illness, or because they are women, they may go ahead and depart from Muzdalifah to Mina in order to stone the pillar before the crowd of people. But when should they depart? Many scholars said: They should depart when the night is half over, because when the night is half over, their stay in Muzdalifah becomes more than half the night. And some said: Rather, they should depart when the moon sets, and this occurs when two-thirds of the night have passed, I mean the two-thirds. And Asma' bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to do this. For this reason, al-Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) said:
And he would go ahead when the moon sets. ويقدم إذا غاب القمر
