Explanation of the Book of Hajj-10a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Amr ibn Khalid narrated to us, Zuhayr narrated to us, Abu Ishaq narrated to us, saying: I heard Abd al-Rahman ibn Yazid say:
Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) performed Hajj, and we came to Muzdalifah when the call to prayer for 'Isha' was made, or close to that time. He ordered a man to give the adhan and iqamah, then he prayed Maghrib, and after that he prayed two rak'ahs. Then he called for his dinner and ate. Then he ordered, I think, a man to give the adhan and iqamah. Amr said: I do not know the uncertainty except from Zuhayr. Then he prayed 'Isha' two rak'ahs. When the dawn appeared, he said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used not to pray this prayer at this time except this prayer in this place on this day. Abdullah said: They are two prayers that are shifted from their times: the Maghrib prayer after the people arrive at Muzdalifah, and the Fajr prayer when the dawn breaks. He said: I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) doing this.
.

The Shaykh : This is your question, Ya Faisal. Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) arrived at Muzdalifah close to the time of 'Isha', meaning close to the time of the 'Isha' prayer. He prayed Maghrib alone with an adhan and iqamah, then he ate his dinner, then he prayed 'Isha' alone with an adhan and iqamah. From this, it is understood that if one arrives at Muzdalifah before the time of Maghrib ends, he should pray Maghrib first, then wait until the time of 'Isha' comes. However, this is not obligatory, because he is a traveler and has the option to combine the prayers, even if there is no hardship. And in our current time, there is hardship if one prays Maghrib and then waits for 'Isha'; there is hardship regarding water. The water may be absent in the place where he stays, or it may be far away. And if a person goes to the water, he may lose track of his companions. Since the matter is, praise be to Allah, broad, we say: whenever you arrive at Muzdalifah, pray Maghrib and 'Isha'. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah forgive you. Well, what about the people of Makkah?

The Shaykh : The people of Makkah combine the prayers at Muzdalifah.

The questioner : For the sake of the rites, meaning?

The Shaykh : No, for the sake of travel.

The questioner : There are people who live around the sacred sites and perform Hajj.

The Shaykh : Because travel can be travel due to the length of the distance, or it can be travel due to the length of the stay. And the pilgrims remain on the eighth, ninth, tenth, eleventh, and twelfth days, five days.
