Explanation of the Book of Foods-03a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Abu al-Nu'man narrated to us, saying: Hammad ibn Zayd narrated to us from 'Abbas al-Jurayri from Abu Usman al-Nahdi from Abu Hurayrah, who said:
Once the Prophet (ﷺ) distributed dates among his companions and gave each one seven dates. He gave me seven dates too, one of which was dry and hard, but none of the other dates was more liked by me than that one, for it prolonged my chewing it.
Sahih al-Bukhari 5411

The Shaykh : Allah is the Greatest. The *hishfah* is somewhat hard and requires more effort from a person to chew. The others are soft and go down easily. The *hishfah* requires chewing and mastication. Because of its slowness in the mouth, he chews it, and its firmness in his molars made it more pleasing to him than the other dates. Allah knows best.

The questioner : Regarding the question that was asked, meaning he wants to say... that there are more reprehensible acts than eating with the left hand. I say, in the wording of the hadith: "Whoever sees a reprehensible act, and he is seeing a reprehensible act, the first thing he should do is change it with his hand. He is seeing the reprehensible act, which is eating with the left hand..."

The Shaykh : Yes, yes, your statement is correct, yes.
