How can a person balance memorizing the Book of Allah with attending daily scholarly lessons, as it is difficult for him to balance them alongside his work and his family’s affairs?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : How can a person balance memorizing the Book of Allah with attending daily scholarly lessons, as it is difficult for him to balance them alongside his work and his family’s affairs?

The Shaykh : This depends on a person’s own capacity, and people differ. Some are able to perform these tasks, while others can only perform one, and others can perform two or three. In any case, a person should look at himself. If the tasks conflict, memorizing the Book of Allah the Exalted takes precedence over attending the lessons. However, if one of the lessons is particularly worthy of attention, he should try to attend it so that he does not miss it.
As for the needs of the family, if no one else is fulfilling them, then fulfilling them is a righteous deed that brings one closer to Allah the Exalted. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas:
You will be rewarded for whatever you spend for Allah's sake even if it were a morsel which you put in your wife's mouth. واعلم أنك لن تنفق نفقة تبتغي بها وجه الله إلا أجرت عليها حتى ما تجعله في في امرأتك
Sahih al-Bukhari 56
meaning in her mouth, even though providing for his wife is an obligation upon him, as the financial maintenance of the wife is obligatory. Nevertheless, he was rewarded for it. So if a person takes care of his family while seeking reward from Allah the Exalted, Allah will reward him for that.
