The benefits of the saying of Allah the Exalted: “So call [people] to that and remain steadfast as you are commanded, and do not follow their desires, and say: I believe in what Allah has revealed as a Book, and I have been commanded to be just among you. Allah is our Lord and your Lord. For us are our deeds and for you are your deeds. There is no argument between us and you. Allah will gather us together, and to Him is the destination.”

Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, said:
So to that [religion of Allah] invite, [O Muhammad], and remain on a right course as you are commanded فلذلك فادع واستقم كما أمرت
[Ash-Shuraa 42:15]
.
Among the benefits of this noble verse is the obligation of calling to the oneness of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, based on His saying:
So call [people] to that فلذلك فادع
. The fronting of the object indicates emphasis on it.
Among the benefits of this noble verse is that it is obligatory for a person to remain steadfast as he is commanded, so that he does not introduce into the religion of Allah what is not part of it, based on His saying:
So remain on a right course as you have been commanded فاستقم كما أمرت
[Hud 11:112]
.
Among the benefits of this noble verse is that it is permissible to direct a command to one who already possesses the quality, in order to encourage him to persist in it, based on His saying:
and remain on a right course as you are commanded واستقم كما أمرت
[Ash-Shuraa 42:15]
. This is because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained steadfast as he was commanded from the moment he was sent, indeed from the moment he was revealed, but the intended meaning is persistence in this matter.
Among the benefits of this noble verse is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is a commanded servant to whom commands are directed, and he has no share in the command, as Allah the Exalted said:
Not for you, [O Muhammad, but for Allah], is the decision ليس لك من الأمر شيء
[Ali 'Imran 3:128]
. Here He said:
As you are commanded كما أمرت
.
Among the benefits of this noble verse is the refutation of those people who claim that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has control over the universe and management of it. Even more so, it refutes those who say that those other than the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) have control over the universe, such as the Rafidah and some of the Sufis who claim that some of their imams control the universe. Those Sufis also claim that some of their poles control the universe. There is no doubt that these people are misguided and associate partners with Allah, Mighty and Majestic.
Among the benefits of this noble verse is the prohibition of following desires, based on His saying, the Exalted:
do not follow their inclinations ولا تتبع أهواءهم
[Al-Ma'idah 5:48]
. If someone asks: Is following desires praiseworthy or blameworthy? We say: What is in accordance with the Shari'ah is praiseworthy. For this reason, it is narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
None of you is a believer till his desire follows what I have brought لا يؤمن أحدكم حتى يكون هواه تبعا لما جئت به
Mishkat al-Masabih 167Isnād Da'īf (Zubair `Aliza'i)
. And what contradicts the Shari'ah is blameworthy.
Among the benefits of this verse is that Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, strengthens His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), because such commands and prohibitions support, strengthen, and fortify him.
Among the benefits of this noble verse is the obligation of believing in everything Allah has revealed in His Book, based on His saying:
but say, "I have believed in what Allah has revealed of the Qur'an وقل آمنت بما أنزل الله من كتاب
[Ash-Shuraa 42:15]
. But how is belief in the previous books? Belief in the previous books is by believing that they truly came down from Allah, Mighty and Majestic. As for following them, it has been abrogated by this Shari'ah brought by Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his Companions).
If someone asks: Do we believe that the books in the hands of the Christians and Jews now are the books revealed to their prophets? The answer is: No, because Allah the Exalted mentioned that they distorted them and concealed much of them. Therefore, we have no trust in the books they claim to be the books of Allah.
Among the benefits of this noble verse is the obligation of justice, based on His saying:
and I have been commanded to do justice among you وأمرت لأعدل بينكم
[Ash-Shuraa 42:15]
. This applies in every transaction, indeed even in the transaction with Allah, Mighty and Majestic, for the obligation is justice. Allah the Exalted said:
Indeed, Allah orders justice and good conduct and giving to relatives إن الله يأمر بالعدل والإحسان وإيتاء ذي القربى
[An-Nahl 16:90]
. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent 'Abdullah ibn Rawahah to the Jews in Khaybar to negotiate a division, he gathered them and said to them: “I have come from the people I love most, and you are the most hateful to me after the monkeys and pigs. But my love for them and my hatred for you do not prevent me from being just with you. They said: By this the heavens and the earth stand.”
The scholars, may Allah have mercy on them, mentioned that if a Muslim and a disbeliever meet in a dispute before the judge, it is obligatory for him to be just between them in sitting, in looking, and in speaking. That is, he does not speak to the disbeliever with harshness and look at him with disdain, but he treats him as he treats the Muslim, because justice is obligatory, and it is not permissible in the position of judgment to differentiate between so-and-so and so-and-so. For this reason, He said:
and I have been commanded to do justice among you وأمرت لأعدل بينكم
[Ash-Shuraa 42:15]
.
Among the benefits of this noble verse is declaring what obligates the opponent, based on His saying:
Allah is our Lord and your Lord الله ربنا وربكم
[Ash-Shuraa 42:15]
. That is, if our Lord and your Lord is the same, it is obligatory for us all to submit to His commands. If someone asks: Is Allah the Exalted the Lord of the disbelievers? The answer is: Yes, He is the Lord of everything. But it is not attributed to Him to say: The Lord of the disbelievers is such-and-such, except in the context of argumentation. Because although Allah the Exalted is the Creator of everything and the Lord of everything, it is not befitting to attribute His lordship and creation to the ugliest of His creation. Just as we know that He, Glorified and Exalted is He, is the Lord of dogs, the Lord of pigs, the Lord of monkeys, and the like, but we do not say: The Lord of monkeys, the Lord of dogs, and the like. This is a point that some people may not notice, which is the etiquette in expression.
It is mentioned that one of the kings saw in a dream that his teeth were falling out, so he called an interpreter to interpret the dream. This interpreter interpreted it by saying that his retinue and his family would die, because a person eats and preserves his life with his teeth. So he ordered him to be imprisoned. Then he called another interpreter who said to him: He will be the longest-lived among them. So he honored him and was pleased with his saying, and the meaning is the same, because if his family died before him, he would become the longest-lived among them, but the expression differs. Here
Allah is our Lord and your Lord الله ربنا وربكم
[Ash-Shuraa 42:15]
He attributed His lordship, Mighty and Majestic, to the disbelievers, but in the context of argumentation. Then He made the matter easy by saying:
Our Lord and your Lord. ربنا وربكم
to indicate generality.
Among the benefits of this noble verse is that Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, will gather people on the Day of Resurrection and judge between them in what they differed over, based on His saying:
Allah will bring us together الله يجمع بيننا
[Ash-Shuraa 42:15]
.
Among its benefits is that the reference is to Allah alone, based on His saying:
To Him is the destination إليه المصير
. But in what? Does the meaning of:
To Him is the destination إليه المصير
refer to the Day of Reckoning, or:
To Him is the destination إليه المصير
in everything? The answer is the second:
To Him is the destination إليه المصير
in everything. If we want the legal ruling, the destination is to Allah; the decree of destiny, the destination is to Allah; the ruling in this world, the destination is to Allah; the ruling in the Hereafter, the destination is to Allah. So everything, its destination is to Allah, Mighty and Majestic. Branching from this principle is that a person does not hope, fear, or supplicate except to Allah alone, having no partner, and does not seek aid except from Allah, and does not seek help except from Him.
