This is because Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, said: Since the ruling was attributed to this cause, we know that if the cause is removed, the known ruling is removed. So if we know that it is customary, or that this person wishes us to stay after the meal, there is no harm; otherwise, it is better to leave. Among the common people, it is said: "There is no sitting after returning". Yes, and we also say that there is no sitting after eating, unless we know that he is pleased and finds comfort in our company, in which case it is a different matter.
