The questioner : A drug has appeared that prevents body hair from growing back in women. Given the benefit and comfort it offers women, many women ask whether this drug is permissible or forbidden.

The Shaykh : If this is on the face, it is equivalent to plucking the eyebrows, and we have mentioned its ruling. If it is on other hair, such as the hair on the arms and legs, then it is undoubtedly better not to use it, because Allah (Mighty and Majestic) created this hair, and there is no doubt that there is wisdom in its creation. However, if the hair is excessive and disfiguring, there is no harm in reducing or removing it. On this occasion, we say: Hair is divided into three categories:
The first category is hair that the Shari'ah forbids removing, which is the beard, the beard of a man. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Differ from the Zoroastrians, let the beards grow, and trim the mustaches. خالفوا المجوس وفروا اللحى وحفوا الشوارب
.
The second category is hair that one is commanded to remove, which is the hair of the armpits and the pubic area for both men and women, and the mustache for men, for a man is commanded to trim his mustache.
The third category of hair is that about which there is no command or prohibition. It is better to leave it as it is, unless it disfigures the natural creation, in which case there is no harm. We do not say that it is forbidden, meaning we do not say that removing it is forbidden, nor do we say that removing it is disliked, because prohibition and dislike require evidence. However, we say that it is better to leave it, because Allah the Exalted did not create it in vain, unless it is disfiguring.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.
