A man calls to Allah in a place where the people of innovation are numerous, so he began with the virtues of deeds and left out tawhid (the oneness of Allah) for fear that they would harm him

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : O Shaykh, may Allah reward you. A person is calling to Allah the Mighty and Majestic in a place where the people of innovation are numerous. He started with the virtues of deeds and left out tawhid (the oneness of Allah) so that the enemies would not target him. Is this permissible?

The Shaykh : This depends on whether the intention behind the da'wah (calling to Islam) is guidance. If he sees that one of the means to achieve this is not to confront them abruptly regarding the tawhid (the oneness of Allah) that they are upon, and he is determined to call them, but he wants to reassure them by mentioning prayer and encouraging it, as well as zakah (the obligatory alms), fasting, and Hajj (the major pilgrimage), and then afterwards he moves on to tawhid (the oneness of Allah), then I hope there is no harm in that.
However, if he does not want to speak about tawhid (the oneness of Allah) at all, saying, "I will not speak about it; this leads to evil," then this is not permissible. But if he makes this a ladder to reach the call to tawhid (the oneness of Allah), then there is no harm. With the hearing of the adhan (the call to prayer), this meeting ends. I ask Allah the Exalted to make this meeting beneficial and to grant us and you success in what is good and righteous. Indeed, He is capable of all things.
