The imam of a mosque who appoints someone to his mosque for a month: does he give him the rent of the house in addition to the reward?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : May Allah forgive you, O Shaykh, if the person is the imam of a mosque.

The Shaykh : If so.

The questioner : If the person is the imam of a mosque and appoints someone to this mosque for a full month.

The Shaykh : And appoints.

The questioner : And appoints someone to this mosque to pray with them for a full month, while he has gone away, and the mosque has a house.

The Shaykh : And the mosque has.

The questioner : A house. The custom is that he gives the reward for that month to the one he appointed. But is anything taken from this house, or?

The Shaykh : First: May Allah bless you. We do not see it permissible for the imam to be absent from the imamate for a month except for something necessary, such as illness, for example. Because where does he take the reward from?

The questioner : From the public treasury.

The Shaykh : From the public treasury, in which every person has a right, even the old woman in her house has a right. So for him to take for something he did not perform is absolutely not permissible. And appointing one person is not sufficient. But if necessity calls for this, for example, due to illness or accompanying a sick person who must be accompanied, then he may, if Allah wills, give him the reward for the month, or more, or less, or give him nothing, according to what satisfies the owner. But he does not place in this mosque except one whom the neighbors, the people of the mosque, approve of, except one whom the people of the mosque approve of. Did you understand? Yes.

The questioner : And the house, O Shaykh, pays the rent for him, meaning?

The Shaykh : Absolutely not. He does not pay the rent for him or anything, because this substitute is satisfied with whatever is given to him.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : Yes.
