The Shaykh's commentary on what was stated in Al-'Ajiri's book regarding the issue of changing the time system.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And I am amazed by what Al-'Ajiri said in his book "Timing to the Year 2000", where he mentioned that some astronomical scholars rejected these European months and said that they are not regulated, and what is the evidence that they should differ from one month to another? We must make them equal months, either by making them twelve months or by making them thirteen months. When they presented this idea, as Al-'Ajiri says, the church, according to the religion, said that this is not possible because changing the date is dangerous, as the religion might change with it, and these months can never be changed. So the men of the church prevented the changing or converting of these months into more regulated ones. Look, they are Christians, Christians who prevented and opposed it, and yet we find that the Muslims have become tails of others in this timing and have melted in the fire of falsehood until they know nothing but these French months. One of the teachers with us at the Institute of Islamic Studies, while I was teaching at the Institute of Islamic Studies, said, "By Allah, I did not know the Arabic months, which are Muharram, Rabi' and so on, until I came to Saudi Arabia; I did not know them at all." And he told the truth, because I myself now do not know the French months because they are not known to us. He also, when they were not known to them, and he is from an Arab country, when they were not known to them, and he was studying, did not know them. Is it fitting for us, while we are Muslims, to forget the months that our Creator established for us, and to forget an occasion that began with these months, one of the greatest Islamic occasions, which is the migration of the Chosen One (peace and blessings be upon him), just so that we can be tails of others? By Allah, this is regrettable and sad. I have excused some Islamic countries that the disbelievers occupied for a period of time; I excused them during the occupation of the disbelievers, but I do not excuse them now that the nightmare of colonialism has been lifted from them. I see that they should strip off the entire clothing of colonialism, which is contrary to the clothing of piety that the Muslim community has adopted. Moreover, changing the time system is not a trivial matter; it corrupts people's transactions and their terms. There are terms of lifetimes; for example, a child born in the year 1350, if the date is changed, instead of being eighty years old when he reaches 1430, he will be less than eighty years old. If a house is rented for a hundred years starting from the year 1350, it ends in 1450, but if we return to the Gregorian calendar, it ends earlier. Therefore, the transition of Muslims from the Islamic, Hijri, Arab, divine calendar to this imaginary, false calendar is considered a regression, not progress, and is considered dependence, not independence. Even though a Muslim must be independent in his person, be a nation, and take what came in the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), even if the people of the earth contradict it. And he must know that if he carries this banner with sincerity, the victory will be his, even if everyone in its corners gathers against him. Many of the simple-minded, weak in their religions, think that the disbelieving nations today are in a strength that no strength can overcome. The likeness of these people is like the people of 'Ad when they became arrogant in the land and said, "Who is stronger than us in strength?" Allah the Exalted said:
Did they not consider that Allah who created them was greater than them in strength? But they were rejecting Our signs. أو لم يروا أن الله الذي خلقهم أشد منهم قوة وكانوا بآياتنا يجحدون
[Fussilat 41:15]
And consider why Allah said "who created them" and did not say "that Allah is stronger than them," to make it clear that this is a created being and the Creator is stronger in power than the created being, and that you are a being after non-existence and will be non-existence after being.
