Benefits of the Hadith: (… from al-Bara' (may Allah be pleased with him), who said

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : In this is evidence for the permissibility of gifting silk to a man, but it does not follow from gifting it to him that he must wear it, for he may give it to a woman or give it to a brother who is a mushrik (one who associates partners with Allah) or a disbeliever, as 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) did when he gifted a silk garment to his mushrik brother in Makkah.
And in it is evidence that Sa'd ibn Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him), who is the master of the Aws, is in Paradise, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The handkerchiefs of Sa`d bin Mu`adh in Paradise are better than this.
Sahih al-Bukhari 5836
Therefore, it is certified that Sa'd ibn Mu'adh is among the people of Paradise. We have passed through in 'aqidah (creed) regarding tawhid (the oneness of Allah) that certification of Paradise is of two types: general and specific.
The general type is to certify for the general believers, or the general righteous, or the general doers of good, that they are in Paradise. The specific type is to certify for a specific person that he is in Paradise.
And neither type is permissible to certify unless it is established in the Book or the Sunnah, whether for a specific person or in general.
And similarly, certification is divided into two types: general and specific. The general certification is to certify for everyone who is killed in the path of Allah that he is a shahid (a martyr); this is general. The specific certification is to certify for a specific person and say, "So-and-so is a shahid." Is the first permissible or not? It is permissible because Allah the Exalted said:
and the martyrs, with their Lord. For them is their reward and their light.
[Al-Hadid 57:19]
, and He said:
And never think of those who have been killed in the cause of Allah as dead. Rather, they are alive with their Lord, receiving provision,
[Ali 'Imran 3:169]
So generally, we certify for every shahid killed in the path that he is in Paradise, or that he is a shahid.
And the specific type, we do not certify for anyone except for whom the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) certified, even if he is killed in battle today, we do not certify that he is a shahid because we do not know, as the Prophet (may Allah's prayer and peace be upon him) said:
None is wounded in Allah's cause - and Allah knows better about who has been injured in His cause
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1656Sahih (Darussalam)
meaning whoever is wounded,
without coming on the day of resurrection with his wound spouting blood, the colour being that of blood but the fragrance that of musk.
Mishkat al-Masabih 3802
So the Messenger (may Allah's prayer and peace be upon him) made an exception and qualified it, saying:
and Allah knows better about who has been injured in His cause
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1656Sahih (Darussalam)
So that we do not presume upon everyone and say that he is a shahid. For this reason, 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) delivered a sermon and said: "You say in your battles, 'So-and-so is a shahid, so-and-so is a shahid,' and perhaps he packed his baggage" meaning from the war spoils and he was greedy, "But say as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whoever dies in the cause of Allah or is killed, he is a martyr.
"
in a general sense. But unfortunately, certification of martyrdom has become very cheap, cheaper than lentils, yes, to the point that a man whom we know was killed out of anger is called a shahid, and this is undoubtedly an error because you will be asked about this word on the Day of Resurrection, you will be asked, every word that comes from you, you are responsible for it. So if a man is killed in Islamic jihad, we do not declare him a shahid, but we say, "We hope that he is a shahid" or "among the martyrs" or the like. Yes.
