The questioner : The prayer began and I was thirty years old. Is it permissible to make up the prayers I missed? And how is that done?
The Shaykh : It is obligatory for a person to pray once he reaches puberty, even if he has only been ten years old, and it is not permissible for him to abandon the prayer.
And this man, the questioner, says: He is thirty years old, but he did not pray until after that. So is he required to make up what has passed?
And our answer is: It is not required for him to make up what preceded, but he must repent to Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) and he should increase in righteous deeds.
And we said only that it is not required for him to make up what preceded because if it was due to ignorance, since he lived in a place far from the people who pray, then he is excused by his ignorance. And if it was deliberate, in that he lived with the Muslims and knew that the prayer is obligatory, but he deliberately abandoned it, then he becomes a disbeliever, and a disbeliever is not required to make up the righteous deeds he missed, due to the saying of Allah the Exalted:[Al-Anfal 8:38].
The questioner : May Allah bless you.
