Question:
A message was received for the program from the Arab Republic of Egypt, sent by the listener: Fathi Ashour Al-Sayed, who was residing in Baghdad when he sent the message. He says in his message: I am a young man, and there are some obligatory prayers that I have not performed in the past. Should I make them up now? And how is the making up done if it is obligatory? And how is the intention formed?
Answer:
Prayer is the pillar of Islam, and it is the greatest of the obligations, and the most important of the obligations after the two testimonies. Whoever leaves it while denying it has committed disbelief by the consensus of the Muslims. And whoever leaves it out of laziness, and is not a denier, then he is a disbeliever according to the most correct of the scholars' opinions; due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the authentic hadith:Sunan Ibn Majah 1079Sahih (Darussalam) And due to his saying (peace and blessings be upon him): which Muslim narrated in his Sahih, in other hadiths that indicate this. And whoever neglects it, or neglects some of it, then repents; there is no making up upon him. You must be upright, O questioner! And ask your Lord for success and assistance, and repent to Allah from the past leaving of it. And there is no making up upon you; because if a disbeliever becomes a Muslim, there is no making up upon him. And the one who leaves it out of negligence is a disbeliever according to the most correct opinion, so there is no making up upon him.
But upon him is sincere repentance. He must regret what has passed, and grieve over what has passed, and resolve with a sincere resolve that he will be upright in the future, and preserve it. And by that, Allah will accept his repentance as He said : [An-Nur: 31] And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sunan Ibn Majah 4250Da’if (Darussalam) So you, my brother, have no making up upon you. This is the correct view. Yes.

The covenant that distinguishes between us and them is prayer; so whoever leaves it, he has committed Kufr.
العهد الذي بيننا وبينهمم الصلاة، فمن تركها؛ فقد كفرBetween a man and disbelief and shirk (associating partners with Allah) is the abandonment of prayer.
بين الرجل، وبين الكفر والشرك ترك الصلاةBut upon him is sincere repentance. He must regret what has passed, and grieve over what has passed, and resolve with a sincere resolve that he will be upright in the future, and preserve it. And by that, Allah will accept his repentance as He said :
And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed.
وَتُوبُوا إِلَى اللَّهِ جَمِيعًا أَيُّهَا الْمُؤْمِنُونَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَThe one who repents from sin is like one who did not sin.
