The questioner : What is the obligatory action we can take regarding a person who calls the adhan at a mosque in our neighborhood, when we have learned that this person is among the people of major sins, may Allah protect us, and worse, he openly commits his sin in gatherings after Allah has concealed it? Please guide us in this matter?
The Shaykh : First, I direct advice to this mu'adhdhin who was described as mentioned by the questioner, and I say to him: Fear Allah the Mighty and Majestic, for you are among the callers to good through your adhan. It has been said regarding the saying of Allah the Exalted:[Fussilat 41:33] that it is the mu'adhdhin.
So I say to him, based on what came in the question: Fear Allah the Mighty and Majestic, be sincere in intention, and rectify your deeds, and do not be like fire that burns itself and illuminates for others.
As for the people of the neighborhood, if they advise this mu'adhdhin but he does not accept the advice, it is obligatory for them to refer his case to the responsible authorities in order to replace him with someone better than him, because it is not permissible for such a sinner who openly commits sin, may Allah protect us, to be a mu'adhdhin calling Muslims to prayer and to success.
