The reciter: Ahmad ibn al-Miqdam narrated to me, he said: al-Fadl ibn Sulayman narrated to us, Abu Hazim narrated to us, he said: Sahl ibn Sa'd al-Sa'idi narrated to us, he said: We were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the Trench, and he was digging while we were carrying the earth, and he looked at us and said: Sahih Muslim 1805a Sahl ibn Sa'd narrated it from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the same manner.
The Shaykh : The Trench was in the fifth year of the Hijrah when the Confederacy gathered against the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and besieged him in Madinah, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) feared that they would enter Madinah. So he consulted Salman al-Farisi (may Allah be pleased with him) about what to do? He suggested to him digging the Trench, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) dug between the two Haras, because the Hara is a place from which they cannot come, as it is difficult for camels and for feet. So he dug a Trench between the two Haras that the enemy could not cross, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) himself dug the Trench, he personally engaged in it to defend his companions. So he was digging, and the hair of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was thick, until the earth was seen on his hair (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was carrying the earth. Sometimes he would dig and carry, and he would say (peace and blessings be upon him):Sahih Muslim 1805a. True, the life of this world will vanish, either it will vanish from you or you will vanish from it, but the life of the Hereafter remains and does not vanish, [Al-A'la 87:16-17]. It is better in this enjoyment and more lasting in permanence. For this reason, a person should look at what he has done for this life, not for the vanishing life. We ask Allah to help us with ourselves. Most people look at what they do for the vanishing life, but the decisive one is the one who works for the remaining life. There is no life but the life of the Hereafter. For this reason, we should not regret what has passed from the matters of this world, because this is the inevitable result: either it will vanish from you while you are most attached to it, or you will vanish from it. This is a must. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), when he saw something in this world that pleased him, would say: Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 9:3196. It is a strange psychological comfort. "At your service," for the life is the life of the Hereafter. Because when the soul sees something in this world that pleases it, it may turn away, it turns to what it saw, what pulls it by the reins? "At your service," as if this turning away is met with the response, meaning: I answered you and returned to you. Then he settles this soul and makes it disdain what it saw of what pleased it in this world, and he says: What is it? The life is the life of the Hereafter. Look at all those who lived in the world, the greatest and most blessed, what is there in the world? Where are they? They have vanished under the earth, they and others are the same, and perhaps they are worse than others. And look at those who sought the life of the Hereafter, we ask Allah to help me and you in seeking it. How did they have a good remembrance in this world and the best reward in the Hereafter? Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) had caliphs in his time, they enjoyed in this world and the world came to them reluctantly, but did their remembrance remain as the remembrance of Abu Hurayrah remained? No, it did not remain. Abu Hurayrah is mentioned in every gathering of knowledge, in every mosque, and in every sermon. Whenever his hadith comes, these others are forgotten. This is the life of the Hereafter, this is the enjoyment. O Allah, make us among those who labor for it. Then he said: . This contains the permissibility of considering the rhyme or the meter or the rhymed prose, because it is known that the Emigrants are better than the Helpers. The Emigrants (may Allah be pleased with them) combined migration and leaving their homelands and dwellings, especially since they left the best of Allah's lands, and what? And the Helpers, the Helpers took on the support, and from them (may Allah be pleased with them) came the preference for which they are the example, but the Emigrants are prior [At-Tawbah 9:100] But there is no harm when we consider a rhymed prose or a rhyme that we place the lesser before the greater. Have you seen in Surat Ta-Ha that Aaron was placed before Moses, is that not so?
The reciter: Yes
The Shaykh : With Moses, he is better than him and he is placed before him in the rest of the Qur'an, but for what reason?
The reciter: The beginnings of the verses
The Shaykh : For the sake of considering the endings and the beginnings of the verses. Ibrahim is placed before Moses[Al-A'la 87:18-19] And in Surat al-Najm, Moses was placed before [An-Najm 53:36-37].
O God, there is no life, but the life of the Hereafter, So forgive Thou the Ansar and the Muhajirs.
