The Book of Jihad, Expeditions, and Authority-07a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Abdullah ibn Muslimah al-Qa'nabi narrated to us, al-Aziz ibn Abi Hazim narrated to us from his father, from Sahl ibn Sa'd, who said:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us while we were digging the trench and carrying the earth on our shoulders. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah, there is no life but the life of the Hereafter, so forgive the Muhajireen and the Ansar."
.

The Shaykh : In another wording:
So forgive the Ansar and the Muhajireen. فاغفر للأنصار والمهاجرة
, the Ansar are mentioned before the Muhajireen in the wording, not in rank, in order for the ends of the verse to be balanced.
In this is encouragement for the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) that if they toil in carrying the earth, there is a better life than this, which is the life of the Hereafter. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), when he saw something he liked from this world, would say:
Here I am! Indeed, life is the life of the Hereafter. لبيك! إن العيش عيش الآخرة
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 9:3196
. This is a benefit that a person should say: when he sees from this world what pleases him, such as cars or palaces or the like, he says: "Here I am! Indeed, life is the life of the Hereafter." "Here I am" is in order to respond to Allah (Mighty and Majestic), to restrain himself from attaching to what pleased him, and then to console himself by saying: "Indeed, life is the life of the Hereafter." If we find luxurious palaces, luxurious rest houses, luxurious cars, and the like, a person may feel constrained, but he says to himself: "Here I am! Indeed, life is the life of the Hereafter." Why "Here I am"? In order to restrain himself from attaching to it, so he turns to Allah (Mighty and Majestic). "Indeed, life is the life of the Hereafter" is to console himself, saying that this life is transient, and the true life is the life of the Hereafter. So train yourself to say this:
Do not extend your eyes toward that by which We have given enjoyment to [certain] categories of the disbelievers ولا تمدّن عينيك إلى ما متّعنا به أزواجاً منهم
[Al-Hijr 15:88]
