The questioner : When we descended from 'Arafah to Muzdalifah, we asked the bus driver we were riding with whether we had arrived at Muzdalifah. He told us, "Yes, we are in Muzdalifah." Based on his statement, we got off and found that people had gone to sleep, so we prayed and slept there. We prayed the Fajr prayer and left the place for Mina after the prayer. However, while traveling in the morning, I became uncertain that we had not stayed overnight in Muzdalifah. Is there anything required of us in this matter?

The Shaykh : There is nothing required of you in this matter, given the indications that show you stayed in Muzdalifah. You found people descending and you descended with them, and nothing contrary to that became apparent to you.
However, if it becomes apparent that you descended before arriving at Muzdalifah, then you are in the ruling of those who abandoned the overnight stay. This is because it is obligatory for a person to be cautious and not to descend except in a place that he predominantly believes to be part of Muzdalifah.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.
