Explanation of the Book of the Hearts-04b

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Khalad ibn Yahya narrated to us, Mas'ar said: Ziyad ibn 'Ilqamah narrated to us, saying: I heard al-Mughirah ibn Shu'bah say: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray until his feet would swell or become tight. When he was told about this, he said:
Shouldn't I be a grateful worshipper? أفلا أكون عبداً شكوراً
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 412Sahih (Darussalam)
.

The Shaykh : This hadith contains patience, but the chapter is about patience regarding the prohibitions of Allah, whereas this is about patience in the obedience of Allah. It seems that al-Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him), when he wrote the title regarding the prohibitions of Allah, mentioned that there is another patience or another type of patience, which is patience in the obedience of Allah, in order to perform His gratitude. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray, meaning at night, until his feet would swell or become tight. It was said to him: How do you do this when Allah has forgiven you for what has passed of your sin and what remains? He said:
Shouldn't I be a grateful worshipper? أفلا أكون عبدا شكوراً
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 412Sahih (Darussalam)
Thus, his obedience is from the category of gratitude to Allah (Mighty and Majestic). And in the hadith is evidence that obedience is part of gratitude. For this reason, some of them defined gratitude as: "performing the obedience of the Bestower" This is the definition of this gratitude. And in this hadith is also evidence that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) chose the station of servitude over the station of kingship, because he was given the choice between being a servant-prophet or being a king, so he chose to be a servant.
