Is it permissible for a person to stand in night prayer until his feet swell, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did?

The questioner : Shaykh, may Allah reward you. Is it permissible for a person to stand in night prayer until his feet swell, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did?

The Shaykh : Some scholars say no, because this is one of his specific characteristics. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to us: As for him, that is his affair, and we will not reach the level of patience and gratitude that he reaches. And since his (peace and blessings be upon him) guidance is that we should not do what is difficult for us, there is a contradiction between the saying and the action, and the saying takes precedence over the action.
