The reciter: Chapter: Abstaining from Sins. Muhammad ibn al-'Ala' narrated to us, Abu Usamah narrated to us, from Burayd ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Abi Burdah, from Abi Burdah, from Abi Musa, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sahih al-Bukhari 6482.
The Shaykh : This contains abstaining from sins and that a person must hasten. Sins is the plural of sin, which is disobedience to the command. Disobedience to the command is either by leaving what is commanded or by doing what is prohibited. It is obligatory for the servant to be upright in both, performing the commands and leaving the prohibitions. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave an example of what he brought and of himself, like a man who came to a people and said, "I have seen the army with my own eyes, and I am the naked warner." His saying: This is a matter of emphasis, because if he had only said "I saw," it might be possible that the meaning is "I knew through a source I did not see with my own eyes." But when he said "with my own eyes," it became a matter of emphasis, like: [Al-An'am 6:7] And his saying "the naked one" is because as the warning becomes more intense, this occurs. That is, it was the custom of the Arabs that when the warner came to warn a people, he would sometimes shout at them, saying "The enemy, the enemy," and sometimes, along with the shouting and calling out, he would strip naked, removing his clothes, because he considered this more effective in stirring up their resolve and seeking safety. So "flee, flee," "flee, flee," meaning "commit to fleeing." He said: "A group obeyed him, so they set out at their own pace and were saved. And a group denied him, so the army overtook them in the morning and swept them away." Those who obeyed him and believed in him walked at their own pace and were safe, while the others remained, so the enemy swept them away.
My example and the example of the message with which Allah has sent me is like that of a man who came to some people and said, "I have seen with my own eyes the enemy forces, and I am a naked warner (to you) so save yourself, save yourself! A group of them obeyed him and went out at night, slowly and stealthily and were safe, while another group did not believe him and thus the army took them in the morning and destroyed them."
The Shaykh : This contains abstaining from sins and that a person must hasten.
