Explanation of the Book of the Hearts-05b

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Isma'il narrated to us, saying: Malik narrated to me from Abu al-Zinad from al-A'raj from Abu Hurayrah that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The (Hell) Fire is surrounded by all kinds of desires and passions, while Paradise is surrounded by all kinds of disliked undesirable things.
Sahih al-Bukhari 6487
.
"Veiled" means "surrounded." That is, the Fire is the abode of those who possess desires, whose only concern is following their desires. Among these are the desire for unlawful sexual intercourse, sodomy, drinking intoxicants, theft, arrogance on earth, and spreading corruption. All of these are desires, and it is these that the Fire surrounds. Therefore, most of those who enter the Fire are the indulgent, as Allah the Exalted said:
(41) And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? (42) [They will be] in scorching fire and scalding water (43) And a shade of black smoke, (44) Neither cool nor beneficial. (45) Indeed they were, before that, indulging in affluence,
[Al-Waqi'ah 56:41-45]
And He the Exalted said:
And when We intend to destroy a city, We command its affluent but they defiantly disobey therein; so the word comes into effect upon it, and We destroy it with [complete] destruction.
[Al-Isra 17:16]
So the people of desires are those who rushed into what the Fire is veiled by, until they entered it, may Allah protect us from that. As for Paradise, it is the opposite; it is veiled by things that are disliked, because doing good is disliked by souls that command evil. You will find that many people, when doing good, force themselves and dislike it. However, this leads them to Paradise. And with this, if a person overcomes these disliked things, they become pleasant to him, and he finds no comfort except in these deeds. As the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
my comfort has been provided in prayer
Sunan an-Nasa'i 3940Hasan (Darussalam)
And some of the Salaf said: "If the kings and the sons of kings knew what we are in, they would fight us for it with swords." So when a person habituates himself to doing obedience with sincerity and following the Sunnah, obedience becomes the most beloved thing to him. However, in its original state, it is not considered so for every specific individual; the original state is that they are disliked. For example, what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding what raises Allah's degrees and removes sins, he said:
well-performed ablution despite difficulties إسباغ الوضوء على المكاره
Sunan Ibn Majah 428Hasan (Darussalam)
, meaning in the cold, a person performs the ablution thoroughly, even though he dislikes it and is pained by this cold water, but he does it seeking the Face of Allah. This is among the causes of entering Paradise. Likewise, when a person travels for Hajj or jihad, he finds this disliked, but as Allah the Exalted said:
But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you
[Al-Baqarah 2:216]
.
