Question:
The listener from Sudan, Ruqayyah Ahmad Muhammad, asks and says: What is the meaning of this hadith? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih al-Bukhari 6487, what are the desires and what is what is disliked?
Answer:
This is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:Sahih Ibn Hibban 7:112 And it came as "hujibat" and "hifitat," meaning that desires are a gate to Hell. Whoever abandons the forbidden desires, such as intoxicants, unlawful sexual intercourse, undutifulness to parents, and the like, is safe from Hell; it is a veil. And whoever commits what is disliked; (Paradise is veiled by what is disliked) such that it was made a veil for Paradise. If the believer strives against his soul and compels it to the truth and forces it to obey Allah and His Messenger, he enters Paradise; this becomes a veil. If he tears it and strives against his soul until he obeys Allah and His Messenger, he enters Paradise. And if he commits the desires, he enters Hell; it is a veil, and the desires here mean the forbidden ones.
As for the permissible ones, Allah has made lawful for him the good things; he eats and drinks what Allah has made lawful for him, and wears what Allah has made lawful for him; there is nothing wrong with that. But the intended meaning of desires here is the forbidden ones, such as unlawful sexual intercourse, theft, oppressing people, and the like of what Allah has forbidden from the forbidden desires. If he commits them, he enters Hell. And if he avoids them and fears them, they become a veil from Hell. (And Paradise is veiled by what is disliked) The soul may dislike being compelled to the truth, such as performing the five daily prayers in congregation, fasting the fast of Ramadan, especially in the summer, Hajj with the ability to afford it, dutifulness to parents, maintaining family ties, and staying away from bad company. The soul may dislike this, but if the believer strives against it until it fulfills the right, he enters Paradise. Yes.
