Question:
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2559Sahih (Darussalam), please explain this statement to us? May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
This is an authentic hadith, an authentic hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:Sahih Ibn Hibban 7:112, and in the other wording: Sahih al-Bukhari 6487 The meaning is that He placed between the Fire and the person the commission of forbidden desires. If he commits them, he proceeds to the Fire and breaches the barrier; if he refrains from them, he is safe. The soul may desire zina or intoxicants; if he yields to it, he proceeds to the Fire. It may desire leaving off prayer and laziness, and he does not pray; if he yields to the soul, he proceeds to the Fire, we seek refuge in Allah. It may desire reviling the religion and mocking it; if he yields to his soul, he falls into disbelief and proceeds to the Fire. It may desire riba (usury or interest); if he yields to his soul and commits riba, he proceeds to the Fire. The soul may desire severing family ties and undutifulness to parents; if he yields to it, he perishes and proceeds to the Fire. Thus, the Fire is surrounded by forbidden desires. And Paradise is surrounded by what is disliked, by what the souls dislike. Souls may dislike charity, they may dislike jihad, but if he opposes them and strives in the path of Allah and gives charity, he proceeds to Paradise. They may dislike maintaining the prayers in congregation; they may be lazy, lacking energy, having laziness and dislike for advancing to the five daily prayers. If he yields to them, he perishes; if he opposes them and prays in congregation and maintains the prayer in the mosques, he proceeds to Paradise. The soul also may dislike maintaining family ties, dutifulness to parents, and honoring the neighbor. If he yields to it, he perishes; if he opposes it and is dutiful to his parents, maintains his family ties, and honors his neighbors, he attains happiness. And so on. Yes.
