Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Abu al-Walid narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to us from 'Uday, from Abu Hazim, from Abu Hurayrah, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said:
If anyone leaves property, it goes to his heirs. And if anyone leaves dependents (without resources), they come to us. من ترك مالا فلورثته، ومن ترك كلا فإلينا
Sunan Abi Dawud 2955Sahih (Al-Albani)
.

The Shaykh : The point of the text is the phrase:
it is for his heirs فلورثته
, for it encompasses captives and non-captives alike.
and whoever leaves behind dependents ومن ترك كلا
means a weak person who cannot support himself or fulfill his obligations.
they are our responsibility فإلينا
, and this is a confirmation of the saying of the Blessed and Exalted:
The Prophet is more worthy of the believers than themselves النبي أولى بالمؤمنين من أنفسهم
[Al-Ahzab 33:6]
.
