Explanation of the Book of Inheritance, Fixed Punishments, and Blood Money-04b

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Abu al-Yaman narrated to us, Shu'ayb informed us, he said: Abu al-Zinad narrated to us from Abd al-Rahman from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
There were two women with whom there were their two sons. A wolf came and took away the son of one of them. That lady said to her companion, 'The wolf has taken your son.' The other said, 'But it has taken your son.' So both of them sought the judgment of (the Prophet) David who judged that the boy should be given to the older lady. Then both of them went to (the Prophet) Solomon, son of David and informed him of the case. Solomon said, 'Give me a knife so that I may cut the child into two portions and give one half to each of you.' The younger lady said, 'Do not do so; may Allah bless you ! He is her child.' On that, he gave the child to the younger lady.
Sahih al-Bukhari 6769
Abu Hurayrah said:
By Allah, I had never heard of a knife before that day, and we used to say nothing but a cleaver. والله إن سمعت بالسكين قط إلا يومئذ، وما كنا نقول إلا المدية
.

The Shaykh : This hadith contains evidence that if a woman claims a son and no one refutes her claim, then he is hers.
This story is strange. Two women, a younger and an older one, went out, and a wolf took the child of one of them. The older one said that the wolf had taken the younger one's child, and the younger one said the opposite. They went to David to judge between them, and he ruled in favor of the older one. It seems, and Allah knows best, that he said that the older one is advanced in age, so she has more right to the child, while this younger woman is young and has a future in which many children will come to her, so he ruled in favor of the older one.
Then they went out to Solomon, and Solomon (peace and blessings be upon him) had an insight that David did not have. Each of them was given judgment and knowledge by Allah, but Allah said:
And We made it understood to Sulayman ففهمناها سليمان
in a case other than this one. So they went out and passed by him, and they informed him of the matter. He said: "Bring me a knife so I can cut it in half between you." The older one did not object. Why?
It is not her child, and her child was taken; the wolf took it. She says, "Let this one go with it too." The younger one said: "No, he is her son, O Messenger of Allah, or O Prophet of Allah." He said: "He is her son." So he ruled in favor of the younger one.
It was known that this woman's compassion was the strongest indication that he was her son, and for this reason he ruled in her favor.
