Benefits of the Hadith: (O Aisha, did you not see that Majaz al-Madlaji came to me and saw Usamah and Zayd, and they had a quilt over them, covering their heads, and their feet were visible)

The Shaykh : And in it is evidence of the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) eagerness regarding lineages, and that confusion should not occur in them, because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) was pleased by this.
And in it is also evidence for acting upon qayafah (physiognomy). Qayafah is a wondrous matter; the qayafah experts know very strange things through their qayafah. They identify a camel from a she-camel when they see the track, and they sometimes distinguish the red from the white among camels. They identify a man when they see his foot, even if they have never seen him; when they see his face, they know that he is the owner of the track.
Until one of our people here now, who is present, told me, saying, "When I see the track, it is as if I see the face of its owner."
Sometimes they infer from the fingers. The mark of the fingers on the walls, if someone climbs over a wall and his fingers are visible on the wall, they identify the owner of these fingers when they find him. It is a wondrous thing, and it is not from study, but rather from intuition and inheritance.

The questioner : Does it follow from the hadith that if something happens to a person, he should inform his family?

The Shaykh : How so?

The questioner : When the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) was pleased by this matter, he informed his family.

The Shaykh : Yes, indeed. It is natural for a person to inform his family and his friends of what pleases him.
