Benefits of the Hadith of the Two Jews Who Committed Adultery

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And in this hadith is evidence for referring the People of the Book to their own scripture as a challenge to them, not as a legal ruling, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
What is the legal punishment (for this sin) in your Book (Torah)? ما تجدون في كتابكم ؟
Sahih al-Bukhari 6819
.
And in it is evidence for what the Jews are characterized by, namely concealing the truth and disguising it with falsehood, as when this man placed his hand over the verse regarding stoning.
And in it is evidence that it is incumbent upon us, the Muslims, to have among us those who know the schemes of the enemies, so that we are fully aware of the situation. This means studying their religion, studying their social conditions, and studying their political conditions, so that we are fully aware of the situation. As for being seated in our lands and knowing nothing about people, in that case we may be deceived.
And look at the blessing of 'Abdullah ibn Salam (may Allah be pleased with him), who knew the situation and said to the man: "Lift your hand."
And in it is evidence that this adulterer, may Allah protect us from such, presented the woman he committed adultery with before himself, and for this reason he ransomed her with his own body. He would bend over her, meaning he would stoop over her so that the stones would not hit her, may Allah curse him. He is now dying, and what benefit does he derive from her if she is saved, even though she will not be saved, for both of them are to be stoned.
And in this is evidence that the People of the Book are subject to the application of hudud punishments for what they believe to be forbidden, but for what they believe to be lawful, hudud punishments are not applied to them, though they are prevented from displaying it, such as intoxicants, for example. If we know that this house is visited by dhimmis (non-Muslims under Muslim protection) who drink intoxicants, it is not permissible for us to raid them or to reprimand them, because they believe it to be lawful. Yes, if they display it in the market or in public places, then they are prevented from doing so. But if they are in their homes, concealed, it is not permissible for us to oppose them in that, because this is a requirement of their religion, and there is a covenant between us and them.
