The reader: Yahya ibn Bukayr narrated to us, al-Layth narrated to us from 'Aqil from Ibn Shihab from Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him)
The Shaykh : So, for the unmarried person, two punishments are combined: the first punishment is flogging, and the second is exile. Exile means traveling to a place other than his own country. We mentioned earlier that if a woman does not have a mahram (a relative one may not marry), she is to be exiled, provided there is safety. If there is no safety, she remains in the country but is imprisoned. Exile has two benefits: the first benefit is moving away from the place of the sin, because if a person is near the place of the sin, he may remember it and return to it. The second benefit is moving from a place of settlement and stability to a place of foreignness, so that his heart is occupied and he does not care about these sins. Yes.
That the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ruled that one who commits unlawful sexual intercourse and is not married is to be exiled for a year and the fixed punishment is to be carried out against him.
