Explanation of the Book of Fitnahs and Rulings-01b

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Muhammad ibn al-'Ala' narrated to us, Abu Usamah narrated to us, from Burayd, from Abu Burdah, from Abu Musa, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), that he said:
If anyone of you passed through our mosque or through our market while carrying arrows, he should hold the iron heads," or said, "..... he should hold (their heads) firmly with his hand lest he should injure one of the Muslims with it. إذا مر أحدكم في مسجدنا أو في سوقنا ومعه نبل فليمسك على نصالها أو قال فليقبض بكفه أن يصيب أحداً من المسلمين منها شيء
Sahih al-Bukhari 7075
.

The Shaykh : This is also among the etiquettes regarding carrying weapons. If you carry one, hold onto its tips, meaning the pointed end that strikes, so that you do not scratch any of the Muslims. If you hold it sideways, its tips will be either in front of you or behind you, and it will strike whoever is in front of you or behind you. For this reason, the scholars said that if a person has a stick, he should either hold it upward like this, or hold it downward, and not hold it sideways, because if he holds it sideways, he harms the person behind him and the person in front of him. This also applies to umbrellas on rainy days and in the summer; if you hold one, do not hold it sideways, because you will harm the person behind you and the person in front of you. Instead, hold it upward. All of this is among the etiquettes by which a Muslim avoids causing harm to his brothers.
