Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: [No! Indeed, the record of the righteous is in 'Illiyyun], from Surat al-Mutaffifin.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : We discussed the exegesis that we began from Surat al-Naba' until we reached the saying of Allah the Exalted
No! Indeed, the record of the righteous is in 'illiyyun.
[Al-Mutaffifin 83:18]
from Surat al-Mutaffifin.
In this verse, Allah the Mighty and Majestic informs with a confirmed statement using "inna," because "inna" in the Arabic language is one of the tools of confirmation. So if you say "The man is standing," this is an unconfirmed statement, but if you say "Inna al-rajula qaim" (Indeed, the man is standing), it becomes a confirmed statement.
So Allah the Mighty and Majestic says:
Indeed, the record of the righteous is in 'illiyyun.
[Al-Mutaffifin 83:18]
And this is the counterpart of
Indeed, the record of the wicked is in sijjeen.
[Al-Mutaffifin 83:7]
.
So the record of the wicked is in Sijjin in the lowest part of the earth, and the record of the righteous is in 'Illiyyun in the highest part of Paradise. That is, in this high place, it was written with Allah the Mighty and Majestic before He created the heavens and the earth by fifty thousand years.
And what makes you know what 'Illiyyun is
This question is intended for magnification and glorification, meaning whatever you know of it, it is great.
Allah the Exalted said
A written record
This is an explanation of His saying
Indeed, the record of the righteous
[Al-Mutaffifin 83:18]
meaning that the record of the righteous is a written record that does not change or alter.
Witnessed by the near ones
: That is, it is attended by or witnessed by the near ones. The near ones to Allah are those who drew near to Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, by His obedience.
And the more a person is in obedience to Allah, the closer he is to Allah, and the more a person is humble before Allah, the more noble he is in the sight of Allah and the higher he is in the sight of Allah. Allah the Exalted said
Allah will raise those who have believed among you and those who were given knowledge, by degrees
[Al-Mujadila 58:11]
.
So the near ones are those who drew near to Allah the Exalted with righteous deeds, so Allah brought them near to Him.
(22) Indeed, the righteous will be in pleasure (23) On adorned couches, observing.
[Al-Mutaffifin 83:22-23]
The righteous (al-abrar) is the plural of "birr" (righteousness), and "birr" is: much good, much obedience, much excellence in the worship of Allah and excellence toward the servants of Allah. So these are the righteous whom Allah has favored by doing good deeds and leaving off what is wrong, in bliss.
Indeed, the righteous will be in pleasure,
[Al-Infitar 82:13]
And the bliss here includes the bliss of the body and the bliss of the heart. As for the bliss of the body, do not ask about it, for Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, said regarding Paradise
And therein is whatever the souls desire and [what] delights the eyes, and you will abide therein eternally.
[Az-Zukhruf 43:71]
, and He said the Exalted
And no soul knows what has been hidden for them of comfort for eyes as reward for what they used to do.
[As-Sajdah 32:17]
.
And as for the bliss of the heart, do not ask about it either, for it is said to them, and they have witnessed death being slaughtered, it is said to them: "O people of Paradise, [you will have] eternal abode and no death." And it is said to them: "Enter it with peace." And it is said to them: "Indeed, for you is that you will be content, so do not be distressed forever, and that you will be healthy, so do not be sick forever, and that you will be young, so do not grow old forever." And all of this is what brings joy to the heart, so they attain thereby the bliss of the heart and the bliss of the body. And the angels enter upon them from every door, saying to them:
"Peace be upon you for what you patiently endured. And excellent is the final home."
[Ar-Ra'd 13:24]
May Allah make me and you among them.
And His saying the Exalted
On adorned couches, observing.
[Al-Mutaffifin 83:23]
The thrones (al-ara'ik) is the plural of "ariakah" (throne), and it is the decorated, adorned bed upon which is placed something like a shade, and it is of the most luxurious types of beds. So they are on the thrones, on these soft, good, beautiful beds, looking. That is, they look at what Allah has bestowed upon them of bliss which souls do not now perceive, so no soul knows what is hidden for them of joy for the eyes. And some of the scholars said that this looking includes even looking at the Face of Allah, and they made this verse one of the proofs for the establishment of seeing Allah the Mighty and Majestic in Paradise.
You will know in their faces the look of bliss
And you are witnessing now in this world that the faces of the blessed and luxurious are not like the faces of the struggling workers; you find it a look, you find it good, you find it enjoyed. So the people of Paradise are known in their faces by the look of bliss, meaning the enjoyment and joy, for they are the most serene and the most blissful. Then Allah the Exalted said, in explaining what they have of bliss,
They will be given to drink [pure] wine [which was] sealed.
[Al-Mutaffifin 83:25]
to the end of it, and we will speak about it, if Allah wills, in the next session, because time is short and perhaps there will be many questions, so we begin now with the questions from the right, and for each person one question, so as to make room for others.
