Some students of knowledge say that perfume does not affect a wound according to a study, but whoever believes that perfume harms it is entrusted to what he believes and falls into shirk (associating partners with Allah)

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
Your Eminence, some students of knowledge, or one of them, says: Perfume does not affect a wound, because there is a study that showed that perfume has no effect on the pain or swelling of the wound. But whoever believes that perfume harms it is entrusted to what he believes, based on His saying:
Whoever hangs something, he is entrusted to it. من تعلق شيئا وكل إليه
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2072Da'if (Darussalam)
as in the hadith of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : But he says: Whoever believes that falls into shirk (associating partners with Allah) of causes. May Allah reward you with good?

The Shaykh : Yes, we say in this matter a useful rule: "A thing is not established in its ruling except through revelation or through experience". So in His saying, Exalted is He, regarding the honeybee:
There emerges from their bellies a drink, varying in colors, in which there is healing for people يَخْرُجُ مِنْ بُطُونِهَا شَرَابٌ مُخْتَلِفٌ أَلْوَانُهُ فِيهِ شِفَاءٌ لِلنَّاسِ
[An-Nahl 16:69]
This informed us that there is healing in it through revelation. Likewise, the saying of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding the black seed:
There is healing in black cumin for all diseases except death. إنها شفاء من كل داء إلا الموت
Sahih al-Bukhari 5688
Thus we knew that through revelation.
The second way is experience, and this is known by the senses. What is known among people now through experience is that a wound may be affected by a type of perfume, not by all perfumes. This is something they have tested and is customary. So if it is known that this is a real cause, and that as soon as this perfume is applied to a patient with wounds, the wounds burst and swell, there is no harm. Just as if we knew, for example, that consuming these plants is a laxative for the stomach or causes constipation through experience. All the medicines now available to people, the manufactured ones for which no revelation has been sent down, were all known through experience. So I know that this is a known and customary matter, that wounds are affected by some perfumes. The evidence for this is that they take precautions, and a person drinks something of bitter or puts it in his nose so that the smell does not enter the pores of the body. Yes.
So what we know to be a sensory cause, there is no harm in relying on it as a cause, and this is not shirk (associating partners with Allah). As for what is based merely on illusions, it has no effect and it is not permissible for us to believe it is a cause.
