Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : I am Egyptian and I work in the Kingdom, and since the date of my entry into the Kingdom, I have not returned to my family for fifteen months. I am married, and I have heard from some people that if a man is absent from his wife for a full year, it is obligatory for him to seek her release before he reunites with her. I do not know how this release is done, and whether it is forbidden if I do not do it. I ask you, may Allah reward you, to elaborate in your answer, and may you receive abundant reward from us, and may Allah grant you success and care for you?

The Shaykh : By "release," it is meant that he asks her to release him from his delay for this period. We say that if a man is absent from his wife and she is satisfied with this absence, then there is no blame on him in that whatsoever.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : As for if she is not satisfied, the scholars have specified that as half a year. After half a year, he must return, unless he is absent out of dire necessity, such as seeking a livelihood he needs. In that case, there is no blame on him, but he must maintain constant contact with his family by writing to them, calling them on the phone, or the like, so that the connection between them is not severed.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : This is regarding the real estate bank. In fact, many questions are received regarding this topic, and this letter was received from al-Qassim from... Ibrahim says.
