What are the guidelines for appointing a leader for a journey? And if one of them disobeys him during the journey, does he commit a sin?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : What are the guidelines for appointing a leader for a journey? If a person is appointed to lead a group, what are the guidelines for his authority over them? Also, if one of the members of the group disobeys him during the journey, does he commit a sin or not?

The Shaykh : Yes, it is well known that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered travelers to appoint one of them to lead them so that their affairs would not be in chaos. This necessitates that he be obeyed in matters related to the interests of the journey, in matters related to the interests of the journey. As for other matters, his obedience is not obligatory. For example, if he says to one of those with him: "Do not fast tomorrow," while the man likes to fast on Monday, for instance, then he is not obligated to obey him. But if he says: "We will stop at this place now," then they are obligated to obey him.
And upon this leader, he must fear Allah (Mighty and Majestic) and be mindful of the trust, and not act except in what is in the interest of the people. And as you pointed out, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) did not order the appointment of a leader except to be obeyed, for there is no benefit in a leader who is not obeyed, and he is obeyed specifically in matters related to the interest of the journey.

The questioner : Does he commit a sin, O Shaykh?

The Shaykh : It is well known that if we say his obedience is obligatory, then the one who disobeys him commits a sin.
