The questioner : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Peace be upon you, and Allah’s mercy and blessings.
The Shaykh : Yes, we say regarding the greeting (salam) first: Is it prescribed for a person to greet while he is present? Did the Companions, when one of them wanted to ask the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) about something, say: “Peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah,” and then ask? The answer is: No. Therefore, there is no need for the greeting, because the one giving the greeting is with us, and he only asks, so there is no need to begin his question with a greeting.
