What is the ruling on Muslims fighting one another?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : As for the fighting between Muslims that you mentioned, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Abusing a Muslim is an outrage and fighting against him is unbelief
Sahih Muslim 64a
meaning: it is among the actions of disbelief, because a Muslim cannot be expected to take up arms against his Muslim brother; he may take them up against a disbeliever. For this reason, the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) described that as disbelief, and he said:
He who took up arms against us is not of us.
Sahih Muslim 98
It is obligatory for Muslims, when such trials occur, to restrain their tongues and to keep their weapons from intervening, except for the one who has the right, because Allah said:
(9) And if two factions among the believers should fight, then make settlement between the two. But if one of them oppresses the other, then fight against the one that oppresses until it returns to the ordinance of Allah. And if it returns, then make settlement between them in justice and act justly. Indeed, Allah loves those who act justly. (10) The believers are but brothers, so make settlement between your brothers. And fear Allah that you may receive mercy.
